Because I see and play with so many new products I am always asked which I use personally. If you've been a longtime reader of Inside Business Magazine, you know that for backup of my standalone PCs, I've been a longtime fan of CMS Products. I use their ABSPlus backup drives and their BounceBack software for backup and recovery. I like that the drive doesn't require a separate power cable or brick. It gets power from the USB port. The new models even have a built-in USB cable (see photo) so you don't have to worry about that either.
It's been a few years since I've upgraded my CMS gear so when I saw them at CES this year I was happy to see some improvements that will make the necessary backup process even easier. Like an easier, more centralized UI for the software.

They now support SATA drives as well as IDE. They also have other useful products such as the Data Transfer kit for moving your stuff from an old laptop to a new unit.

Also new is the Velocity Series Backup Systems. These are removable so you can easily take your data to remote locations. We used to rotate tapes and take them off-site.

Now it's easier and more effective to use a few removable drives to archive data or rotate and secure backups.
