Solar Eclipse Event
Villa Angela St Joseph High School
August 21, 2017
Great Lakes Geek Dan Hanson went back to his high school alma mater Villa Angela St Joseph HS in Cleveland for a solar eclipse watch event. It was St Joseph HS went Dan went there a long time ago but what has remained the same is a strong science curriculum and great teachers.
Though it was not a school day, students, teachers and members of the community came to the VASJ parking lot for solar eclipse activities. Of course there was appropriate music with songs like Bad Moon Rising, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Here Comes the Sun, Dark Side of the Moon and others. There was information explaining the science of the solar eclipse, an eclipse scavenge hunt and various ways to view the eclipse safely.
Dan spoke with VASJ Physics and Astronomy teacher Lucy Kulbago who explained the eclipse, the events of the day and the interest of students in science. He then looked at some of the various ways to view the eclipse at VASJ - telescope projection, pin hole devices, special glasses and so on.
Watch the video below to see Ms Kulbago and the VASJ solar eclipse event. (Make sure your speakers are on and click the lower right to make it full screen).
